What We Measure

  • Air Quality (AQI): Real-time EPA AQI from monitoring stations nearest to each site.
  • Temperature Stress: Current heat index and count of heat-index days over the trailing 30 days. Source: NOAA / NWS.
  • Water Deficit: 30-day precipitation minus evapotranspiration (mm). Negative values indicate active drought stress. Source: Open-Meteo.
  • Grid Carbon Intensity: Pounds of CO2 per megawatt-hour from state-level grid emissions. Source: EPA eGRID.
  • Legislative Risk: Combined score of pending state bills that could restrict, tax, or mandate disclosure for data center operations.
  • Grid Proximity: Distance (km) to the nearest 345 kV or 500 kV high-voltage transmission line.

  • AirNow (EPA): Real-time AQI at monitoring stations nearest each facility.
  • Open-Meteo: Precipitation and evapotranspiration for 30-day water deficit.
  • NOAA / NWS: Temperature, heat index, and river stage data.
  • EPA eGRID: State-level grid carbon intensity (lbs CO2 / MWh).
  • EIA SEDS: State retail electricity demand for grid growth analysis.
